Une vacance Francophone!

(Openair Market in Aix-en-Provence)

Do you ever feel the need to throw yourself a little pep rally? Whether it's a day at the spa to get ready for final exams, a day at the beach to gear up for your wedding planning, or just a long bath to muster the pep for another day in the office, a personal pep rally is often a good idea.

I am throwing myself a little "Go back to school for your Master's and Possibly Ph.D" pep rally this May or June. Although I'm not sure where I'll be going back to school, I can tell you that I'll be getting my Master's in Education /French in order to teach French. I am signed up to take the GRE on April 28th and I plan on being is school in August 2010.

So, my pep rally is coming in the form of a trip to France. My husband will probably not be able to come with me, so I am planning on doing it with a friend. I am thinking a trip to the South of France, maybe a little time in Paris will really get me back in Frenchy mode and motivated to go back to school!

I'm pretty thrilled about this prospect and looking to mark another 2010 destination off my list.

So here is a picture of the gorgeous city of Nice (pronounced like niece) to get us all in the spirit! I visited Nice many years ago when I was in high school and have always wanted to visit as an adult. It's French, beachy and feels like the landscape is straight out of a painting. Just too perfect!

I'll post my plans as they come together. Anyone have any tips for traveling through Provence/Cote D'Azur, please let me know! I'm so open to anything that might help me have a great trip and save a lil dough :)

  1. My husband and I went to Monaco/South of France for our honeymoon. Definitely fly into Nice, but don't spend all of your time there. It's so easy to get around (as you probably remember there's one major highway along the coast). We stayed in a town called Juan les Pins, which is where F. Scott and Zelda lived when they were ex-pats. Definitely worth seeing! Have dinner in Cannes and, if you can, be sure to check out the ancient village of Eze, which is perched far on a hill and overlooks the sea. It's breathtaking.

The best time to go is end of June because the weather is gorgeous and the Europeans aren't on summer holiday yet. We experienced hardly any traffic or crowds the whole time we were there. Have so much fun! I'm super jealous.

  2. Lucky you! Congrats on going back to school! You're way more motivated than I am--I have my B.S. in Early Childhood/Elementary Education, and hope to NEVER go back!

  4. Colleen, thank you for the info! The more I look into flying into Nice (which is maybe where we flew out of last time I was there... who knows I was 15) the more i think it's the way to go.

And Mrs. B and Sarah - I am getting more excited to go back to school full-time every day. I'm ready to move into the next phase of my life professionally. SO READY!

  5. Oh and Colleen, I actually go to go to Eze the first time I was there. What a spectacular little place. It's just so beautiful it feels like it's not real. It's a fanstasy place! I'm trying to book a night in an inn there and just take in that view!

  6. Yay Em! Back to school AND a trip to France! You had some thinking time last weekend, didn't you?

We did fly into Nice last time, and out of Paris. Remember the crazy birds in Monaco and how aux en Provence smelled like lavender? This makes me want to find all those crazy pictures...and go back and see it again!
